Mono Lake (CA)

Because the city of Los Angeles used too much water out of this area east of the Sierra Nevada the level of Mono Lake sunk dramatically. This exposed fascinating Tufa formations. They were created by freshwater springs on the ground of this extremely salty lake. Mono Lake is an important eco system for several endangered species, that's why they put a lot of effort to restore it.
